Artemis’s Hunt ~ Sons of War novella 2.5
By Lia Davis

Deception broke her heat. The truth fuels her hunt.

Artemis, goddess of the hunt, has lived with heartache for the last fifteen hundred years, believing her only love is dead. That’s what her father—Zeus, king of the gods—told her. After recent events brought the truth to light, Artemis must gather the courage to face her lost love again.
Evangelos, former god of messengers, was content living in the mortal world until he discovered he has a daughter and her mother is Artemis. When the goddess shows up at his place of employment with tales of renewing his god status, he’s skeptical. Zeus wouldn’t reverse the curse out of the goodness of his heart. There is always a catch. The god king wants something in return.
When Artemis explains she has to hunt down her stepmother, Hera, in order to get Evan back into Zeus’s good graces, Evan demands to accompany her. However, the journey turns out to be a test that could bring them closer together or tear them apart forever.

Artemis’s Hunt by Lia Davis

What makes a lover unforgettable? (Answered in Artemis’s POV)

He can’t be afraid to show a little dominance from time to time. He also has to know when to allow me to take charge. But the major quality of an amazing lover is how in tune he is to his partner. Evan is all those things and more, and he’s all mine.

She must be ill. It was the only reasonable explanation for her reaction to him. When he spoke, his tone softened, almost to a whisper. “I offer my services to you during the time it takes you to teach me.”
Suspicion crawled up her spine. “What services?”
He closed the distance between them until only a breath separated them. “Anything you wish, my goddess.”
She was fully unprepared for what happened next. When his soft lips brushed hers, every nerve in her body lit up as if charged by lightning. For a moment she allowed his testing caress, but when he wrapped an arm around her waist, she broke the kiss and slapped him. The sound of the strike echoed off the trees as his head whipped to the side, thunder to emphasize the storm he’d awakened with his touch.
“Do that again and I’ll kill you,” she warned.

Two stubborn people—a witch and a mage—come together with a fierceness borne of desperation. Can passion trump their intense need for independence? Will they live long enough to find out?

Roz, Jenna, and Colleen are the last of the demon-stalking witches. So far, they’ve escaped disaster, but their luck is running low. When demons strike in the midst of Colleen’s wedding, Roz launches desperate measures because she and her sister witches are Earth’s only hedge against being overrun by Hell’s minions. As she shape-shifts to keep one step ahead of the demons, at least it takes her mind off her other problems. Personal ones. She burned through a couple of marriages with a string of loser men before, after, and in between. Though she wants to be happy for Colleen, the jealousy bug bit deep and hasn’t let go.

In Roz’s secret heart she’s attracted to Ronin, one of the Daoine Sidhe. He’s so profanely beautiful she can barely breathe around him, but he’s also headstrong and arrogant. Not good partner material, she tells herself, unless she wants to end up dusting her heart off one more time.

Ronin set his sights on Roz when she was at his home in the U.K. for a strategy meeting and he can’t get her out of his mind. Unfortunately, she’s so prickly getting close to her requires scheming. He casts an enchantment to lure her at Colleen’s wedding, but she senses the spell and rebuffs him.

Roz is used to calling the shots. So is Ronin. Sparks fly. Tempers run hot, right along with an attraction too strong to be denied. Roz and Ronin come together with a fierceness borne of desperation, but demons are determined to rid themselves of the witches for good, no matter what it takes.

Roxanne tells what makes an unforgettable lover

I’m Roxanne Lantry, Roz to my friends, and I’ve had rotten luck with men. They’ve dumped me, cheated on me, and played me dirty. I’ve gotten back at a few, but that’s another story. From my perspective, the most important thing of all is a guy with ethics. Of course, it wouldn’t hurt for him to be tall. I’m well past six feet, and I hate looking down on a man. He needs to have magic too, or at least not be freaked out by mine.

Nope, I thought about that, and he really does need magic. For one thing I’m a demon hunter. When things get hot and heavy, I need someone who can jump in and help fight. I also need him to adore me beyond wisdom and reason. No more men I can’t trust. Life’s too short, and mine could be way shorter than some. I hate to think that way, but it’s the truth. When you’ve lived with danger as long as I have, you figure there’ll come a time when your number is up. I’d die a happy woman if someone like Ronin wanted me.

Who’s Ronin? Only one of the Daoine Sidhe, a fairy prince actually. He’s got black hair and these glacier blue eyes. Like all the Sidhe, he’s so profanely beautiful, it’s almost hard to look at him. Anyway, he’s who I want, so cross your fingers for me.  Toes too!

Excerpt

She opened her mouth to his tongue, and his kiss became harder, more insistent. Her nipples came alive, hardening into peaks where they rubbed against her turtleneck, and her crotch flooded. Almost ashamed by her instantaneous response, she broke their kiss, but he ran the tip of his tongue over her lips, inviting, teasing, and she sparred with it, loving the taste and feel of his mouth.

Ronin let go of her hand, wrapped his other arm around her, and pulled her close. He crushed his mouth over hers and slipped his tongue back inside her mouth. She sucked hungrily, wondering what his cock would taste like, and closed her arms around him. Hard muscles flexed beneath her touch. She wanted to see his body, run her mouth over every inch of it. Roz had never been shy about sex, but that was when her emotions had been wrapped up in a tidy box and buried deep. Today, she felt raw and vulnerable. She’d let the man holding her past inner walls she’d never taken down before.

“Dark Sentinels Book Two: Torin”

When greedy land developers set their sights on Dark Sentinel land, Torin turns to attorney Stephanie Bates for help, but she’ll need his protection to stay alive long enough to save his land.

Real estate lawyer, Stephanie Bates, has risen to the top of her field through meticulous sacrifice and goal setting. She has no time for distractions – and that includes pets, messy relationships, and loose ends.

Torin DuMont is a forensic scientist who chose the profession to avoid dealing with people as much as possible. Raised by a stepfather who hated him, he’s been forced to live a life of solitude, fueled by anger and distrust. When wolves and shifters start turning up dead, Torin must battle an enemy bent on destroying those he was born to protect. His greatest challenge, however, is Attorney Bates and the surprising effect she has on his heart.

Unforgettable Lovers POV – Dr. Torin DuMont  from “Dark Sentinels Book Two: Torin”

I’m probably the last person to ask about love, lovers, or anything remotely related. I’ve got some major trust issues, but somehow this cute, harmless looking little human female wrapped herself around me before I even knew what was happening.

It started with her soft, lilting voice. I hadn’t even seen her yet, but I could hear her through the wall, and her voice had a soothing effect. I’m not too interested in people. I mean, let’s face it – I’m a forensic scientist because I’m better when they’re not living, but I wanted to see the owner of that voice.

Next thing I know, this sassy little thing is standing in front of me. Of course I immediately said something to piss her off and the fire in those deep brown eyes caught me by surprise. She was suddenly across the room yelling for me to get out. I don’t get taken by surprise often. I read people pretty well, and they don’t stray too far from my expectations. Control is important to me, too, but I lost it with Steph.

A few minutes later, I went from sitting in my truck wondering what the hell I’d said, to shifting in furious rage to protect her. I killed two people that night. Killing isn’t  so unusual for me, but the way I did it, without thinking about the consequences, for a virtual stranger, that means something.

I tried to ignore the compulsion to drive by her apartment and make sure she was safe, the driving force to touch her, to be inside her. The last thing I wanted was to creep her out, but I knew then that Stephanie Bates would not be easily forgotten. I still don’t know what I said to piss her off when we first met, but the better I get to know her, I’m starting to believe she might really care for me. As for me,  I will protect her with my life.

Excerpt

Steph sat still a few moments longer, trying to digest what had just happened. Did he just apologize for kissing me senseless? For threatening to kill anybody who tries to hurt me? What the hell was he apologizing for? For helping me forget everything, if only for a few moments? No way! I will not give up on him that easily.
After what had just happened between them, she’d never get to sleep if she didn’t act. He made her feel safe. Even now, knowing Jeffery had followed her from DC, she believed Torin would do everything in his power to keep her safe.
Steph’s heart thudded loudly as she stood and moved toward the bathroom, her mind made up. She hadn’t figured out how the unusual man’s mind worked, but he’d proved he wanted her, and he was there for her. For the moment, that was all she needed to know.
To her surprise, Torin hadn’t closed the bathroom door. She simply walked in and took in the beautiful silhouette of his body behind the shower door. She unzipped her jeans, twisted from side to side to remove them, stepped over to the shower, and opened the door in one swift movement, so as not to lose her nerve.
