"Wild Hunt" lives up to its title. This vampire/psychic adventure is a quick, entertaining read full of dark elements and an uneasy, dark romance between Lora and Vlad. Lora is what we call "legally blind" and has been since the age of 8. Although she can still see shadows and fuzzy images, her ability to move around independently is greatly impeded because she can only see small parts of people and things; however, she does not allow lack of vision to stifle her wit, even in the face of danger and terror.

In addition to Lora's charming wit and Vlad's dark, damaged brooding, this story includes two more elements that I loved - a wise grandmother and a clear message that strength comes in many forms. I appreciated the way Lora's grandmother's vision continued to guide her even after the wise woman's death. As for strength, let us just say that Vlad's true strength is not what most would expect it to be.

Lora's relationship with Vlad begins as one of resolve. When the two meet, Lora has already accepted her 'fate,' and her ability to remain calm despite her entire life hanging in the balance is remarkable. Admittedly, there were times when I found it difficult to identify with the heroine, but most of her behavior was eventually explained as the story continued.

"Wild Hunt" is not for the faint of heart, but once I started reading it, I could not put it down. I needed to know what would happen next. Kilpatrick kept me guessing and intrigued throughout with interwoven mystery and subtle twists, and despite the fact that the story is relatively short, it packs the punch of a much longer tale with likable, well-developed characters and clear conflicts. If you enjoy vampires, paranormal romance, and dark, dangerous, arrogant heroes, you do not want to miss this story.
