Magic Harbor
Kristen L. Jackson
(Keeper of the Watch, #2)
Publication date: October 10th 2019
Genres: Urban Fantasy, Young Adult
When Alyx Eris convinced him to become a keeper of the watch, Chase Walker knew he gained the ability to traverse the twelve dimensions.
He knew there were others—the hunters—who would do anything to put an end to the watches’ existence.
He knew his status as a keeper was completely binding until his nineteenth birthday.
Most importantly, he knew he’d be spending the year by Alyx’s side.
What he didn’t know was that in this dimension resides a ruling mage that poses more of a threat than the hunters ever could.
He didn’t know that magic-born hybrid beasts lurk in every corner of the surrounding forests.
And he didn’t know that nothing—and no one—is what it seems in the mystical world of Dimension 8.

Review
Magic Harbor
In
“Magic Harbor,” the hero and heroine are Chase and Alyx. They’re both keepers,
unique individuals born with the ability to travel between dimensions or
alternate worlds for one year, starting on their 18th birthday.
Born on specific days of the year, there were a total of 12 keepers; unfortunately,
all but 3 have been killed by ‘hunters,’ humans hell-bent on destroying all keepers.
I
seldom read YA and NA novels because the themes are usually not dark or deep enough for me, but apart from a few scenes at “Dune Haven,” I
was pleasantly surprised by the author’s ability to hold my attention. Our
heroine and hero, Alyx and Chase, are well-developed 3-D characters surrounded
by an equally interesting supporting cast including lovable and not so lovable 4-legged
creatures. Jackson’s thorough, colorful descriptions, even down to details
about the post office in the small town, “Dune Harbor,” are particularly
well-done, and each chapter propelled the adventure forward while leaving me
with questions about what would happen next.
Hesitant
at first because I did not have the opportunity to read book one first, I was
pleased that Jackson deftly filled me in just enough to keep me from feeling
like I was lost in book two without slowing the story's pace. I have already purchased book one, but the author
made book two easy to follow; however, I will definitely read book one to fully
catch up on the series and its beginning. Overall, “Magic Harbor” is a
perfectly paced adventure with witches, mages, chimeras, a sweet touch of
budding young love, and classic good vs. evil filled with intricately woven relationships.
Fans of fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and sci-fi will find something to
keep their eyes riveted to each page. “Magic Harbor” is an easy 4.5-stars and I
plan to not only keep up with this series, but take a look at Jackson’s other
work as well.
