10+ Ways to Gain Blog Traffic

Thank you so much for hosting me today!

Dariel asked me about ways to gain blog traffic, so I’ll let you know what I’ve seen to work.

1. Use Triberr.com.
It’s this cool website where you join Tribes and link your blog posts to it. Then, using Twitter/Facebook/etc., your tribe mates will send your post to their followers. For example, I have over 2200 Twitter followers, but with Triberr, I have a reach of almost 260,000 followers.

2. Blog on schedule.
If people know you blog Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, then they’ll look for your posts that day. If you blog whenever, you are likely to get lost amongst other people’s blogs.

3. Use clear blog titles for posts.
If a person doesn’t know what the blog post is about from the title, then he/she is less likely to click on it to read.

4. Use hashtags in blog post titles.
If you link your blog posts to Twitter via Triberr or NetworkedBlogs, then you have your blog posts titles appear on Twitter. Using hashtags can help like-minded individuals to find your posts as well, such as #NaNoWriMo or #AuthorInterview or #BookChat.

5. Post blog links on your social media.
People don’t always follow blogs, but if you post to Facebook, Twitter, etc., then people are more likely to see your post and consider reading it, even if they aren’t a follower.

6. Join a blogfest/bloghop.
Blogfests are a lot of fun, and if you join one, then the other bloggers will hop on over to read your contribution to the blogfest. The biggest one out there I know of is the A to Z Blogging Challenge which takes place in April. Last year they had nearly 2000 bloggers participating.

7. Create a blogfest/bloghop.
As the host, you’ll get more followers and page views as more people sign up. Be sure to spread the word about your blogfest and sometimes have multiple days for bloggers to post, so more people can join. One of my highest viewed posts is about my Annual Flash Fiction Blogfest I host in May.

8. Follow back.
You get what you give when it comes to blogging. If a blogger follows you, consider following back. Lots of bloggers will add blogs to their blog roll, so it makes you visible on their blog too.

9. Comment on blogs.
The same with #8, you get back what you put in. If you blog but don’t join in with the community, you’ll see your page views and comments dwindle. Comment back and find blog posts to comment on. Be sincere. Make friends. Blogging is about networking, so get out there and network.

10. Join in memes.
Various blogs will have weekly memes. Sometimes hundreds of people will post and hop around. Such memes I participate in are Teaser Tuesdays and Waiting on Wednesdays.

11. Check your SEO (search engine optimization).
I must admit my knowledge on SEOs is lacking, but knowing things as your Klout score and the like can see what you’re doing right and wrong when it comes to blog traffic.

What have you learned increases your blog traffic?
Stop by tomorrow to see friend and author Danita Minnis's contribution to my Christmas reading list :-)
